What is the Home-Delivered Meals Program?

The Home-Delivered Meals Program was designed to provide nutritious meals to homebound seniors and older adults with disabilities who are in need. We are raising money to support those in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties of South Carolina who meet these criteria.

Trident Area Agency on Aging (TAAA) has lost a total of $177,000 compared to 2009. These funds were to be used for 44,000 home-delivered meals for senior citizens. There is a great need to assist those in our community who cannot help themselves. Your donation to the Home-Delivered Meals program will go straight to those who truly need it.

For many of these seniors, the home-delivered meal is "a source of nutrition, often the only daily contact with a living person, and can help individuals make independent living a viable option." (TAAA 2010)

One of our classmates wrote about her personal experience with the Home Delivered Meals program. She writes:

"My name is Lashanda Steplight and I am a student at Trident Technical College in the Human Services program. The Home-Delivered Meals program is an excellent and helpful program. My granny used to recieve the meals before she passed away and she always enjoyed the food and also the company. It helped her to be comfortable with not being able to cook anymore, because she always wanted to do for herself even when she was unable to. Having this program really shows the elderly that someone does care. It also helps the family because family has the tendency to forget because they have busy lives. Helping with this program can put a smile on many faces and fill plenty of bellies.

As our project continues, we hope to be able to spread awareness as well as raise funds for this cause. If you have any questions or would like to make a donation, we welcome your support and inquiries.
